THE LONDON GUESTHOUSE LYME REGIS
ACCESS STATEMENT
INTRODUCTION
Originally a Sixteenth Century Coaching Inn, The London now offers comfortable accommodation with a variety of room sizes and types. Whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features in the main building which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility. However we have 3 garden rooms which are more easily accessible after ascending seven wide steps (av.ht. 18 cm)
Pre-Arrival
- We are located just off the main road into Lyme Regis and just 4 minutes walk (very slightly downhill) to the town centre.
- The nearest bus stops are 200 yards away.
- The nearest railway station is Axminster, approximately 5 miles away. Taxis are easily available but we will book in advance for guests on request.
- Brochures and menus can be provided in large print if required. We regret we do not have facilities to prepare documents in Braille.
- We are happy to accommodate most dogs (and cats) in designated pet friendly rooms. Not all rooms are pet friendly so guests are advised to check availability in advance.
- Our website www.londonlymeregis.co.uk provides photos of a selection of our guest rooms and further information about the services we provide.
- You can contact us by telephone, email or fax. Please see the ‘Contact Information’ section of this document for full details.
Arrival and Car Parking
- If planning to arrive after 6 pm please let us know so that we can be sure to be available to welcome you .
- Our car park is by the side of the main building and is easily accessed off the main road coming in either direction. There is room for 10 cars in marked spaces. Further parking can be made available if requested in advance. We are pleased to assist any guest from the car park to Reception and then to their room. We offer assistance with luggage.
- All rooms are available by 2 pm but guests are welcome to arrive earlier by arrangement and use the car park.
- The car park is illuminated during the hours of darkness.
- Access from the car park to Reception is by a side entrance (1 step of 15 cm) or via the main entrance.
Main Entrance and Reception
- There are 2 steps up to the main entrance. The first is 13 cm, the second is 15 cm. The front door may not be open but please just ring the bell on arrival.
- Reception is reached through the main entrance and is easily identified, being a large former bar counter.
- On arrival guests are requested to complete simple registration formalities. Seating is available in the reception area.
- The floor is level throughout the entrance and reception area but it is then necessary to ascend stairs or steps to reach either the garden rooms or the rooms in the main building. We will always try to provide assistance to guests but must advise that some of the stairs in the main building are narrow. They can be avoided by an alternative route, although this is a little longer in distance (an extra 95 yards).
- There are no restricted opening hours. Guests in the main building are provided with a key to the entrance from the garden and this is accessible 24 hours. All garden rooms are also accessible 24 hours. Naturally we ask guests to show consideration for others if entering late, particularly in the main building.
Public Areas
- The breakfast room is accessed from 3 different entrances for guests’ convenience depending on their room location and mobility. However all 3 entrances do involve at least 2 steps of 18 cm.
- The Guest's garden is large and mainly level except for a gentle rise to the sea viewing area where there is ample seating, including picnic tables.
- All flooring in the main building is carpeted including the stairs.
- There is a sitting area in the main building just off the garden entrance for guests who wish to read the ‘local attractions’ information leaflets which are provided. Access to this sitting area involves 3 steps from the garden entrance (Av. Ht. 18cm).
- There is a public WC close to the sitting area in the main building, on the same level. The facility is unisex.
- The main building and garden rooms are centrally heated throughout but temperatures in all bedrooms can be adjusted to suit individual requirements.
